Advent in Irland

Der Adventskranz besteht auf der grünen Insel nicht aus vier, sondern aus fünf Kerzen, die auch noch bestimmte Farben haben müssen: Drei lila, eine rosa und eine weiße Kerze.  Jede Kerze hat eine besondere Bedeutung. Am ersten Advent und der darauf folgenden Woche brennt als Zeichen für Besonnenheit und Buße eine lilafarbene, ab dem 2.Advent brennt eine weitere lilafarbene. Am dritten Advent entzündet man eine rosa Kerze aus Vorfreude auf die herannahende Geburt von Jesus. Am vierten Advent erstrahlt die dritte lilafarbene Kerze und zum krönenden Abschluss der Adventszeit, leuchtet am Heilig Abend die weiße Kerze als Symbol für Christi Geburt. Auf diese Weise erzählt der Adventskranz in Irland eine ganz eigene Geschichte und gibt freundliche Hinweise, was in der Adventszeit im Vordergrund stehen sollte.
